TEACHERS AND SCHOOLS READINESS, CHALLENGES TO DISTANCE LEARNING, AND TEACHER PERFORMANCE IN TIME OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC

This study aimed to find out the relationship between teachers’ perception on their readiness as well as schools’ readiness and the challenges brought about by distance learning and teacher performance in time of 2019 Corona Virus Disease pandemic. The study was guided by Self-Determination Theory and the three universal and basic needs: autonomy, competency, and relatedness. Two hundred eighty-six (286) respondents of the study were from private and public junior and senior high school teachers from the Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose Vicarial Schools System and Schools Division of Occidental Mindoro. Descriptive research method was employed through the use of survey questionnaires for data collection. The study used frequency counts, average, percentage, mean and standard deviation for the descriptive analysis. Meanwhile, Pearson-r coefficient of correlation was utilized for inferential analysis. The socio- demographic characteristics of the respondents, specifically teaching experience, highest educational attainment, and teaching position, showed to have correlation with their teaching performance. A similar association was found between the teachers' perceptions of their own readiness for distance learning and the readiness of their school. On the other hand, there was no relationship found between the teachers' perceptions of the difficulties of distance learning and their teaching performance.
